Sharewear — NFC & QR Wearable ID Platform for Child Safety

We built the digital platform behind Sharewear — a family-owned safety brand selling NFC and QR-enabled wearable ID products. Any bracelet or tag when scanned instantly surfaces the wearer's emergency contacts, medical info, and location data.

A child goes missing in a shopping centre. A person with a medical condition collapses in a park. A non-verbal child wanders from a school trip. In each of these situations, the first responder — a member of the public, a security guard, a paramedic — needs the same thing immediately: who is this person, who do I call, and is there anything medical I need to know before I act.

Medical ID bracelets have existed for decades. The problem is they're static. A stainless steel engraving can hold a name, a condition, and a phone number. It can't hold a list of allergies, a GP's contact, a parent's work number and mobile, a note that the child is non-verbal and responds to a specific name. It can't be updated when a phone number changes. It can't tell a first responder where the child's school is or who else to call if the primary contact doesn't answer.

The Sharewear founder came to us with a physical product already designed — a range of wearable ID items (kid bracelets, shoelace tags, watch band slides) each embedded with an NFC chip and printed with a QR code. The hardware was solved. What was needed was the platform behind it: a profile system that any first responder could access instantly by scanning the product, without an app, without an account, without any friction — and that parents and carers could update at any time from their own account.

The secondary requirement was commercial: a platform that could support a direct-to-consumer store, affiliate resellers, wholesale buyers, and a community programme for organisations working with vulnerable individuals, all from a single backend.

The profile access flow had one non-negotiable constraint: zero friction for the scanner. A first responder in an emergency cannot be expected to download an app, create an account, or navigate a login screen. Scanning the NFC chip or QR code on a Sharewear product had to resolve immediately to a readable profile page — no barriers between the scan and the information.

We built the profile system at sharewearprofile.com as a publicly accessible, mobile-optimised web app. Each product is assigned a unique identifier at manufacture. When scanned, the identifier resolves to the owner's profile page — rendered instantly, no authentication required on the scanner's side. The profile displays emergency contacts in priority order, medical conditions and allergies, any notes the owner has added, and — where the owner has enabled it — a geolocation prompt that lets the scanner share the device's location to assist with recovery.

Profile management is handled through an authenticated owner portal. Parents and carers can update contacts, add medical information, upload a photo, configure which fields are visible to scanners, and manage multiple profiles from one account — a family with two children and a grandparent with a medical condition can manage all three from a single login.

The e-commerce side runs on a Shopify foundation with custom integrations into the profile backend. When an order ships, the system links the purchased product's unique identifier to the buyer's account, and a setup prompt is sent to guide them through profile creation. Wholesale buyers receive a batch of unregistered identifiers that they can assign to end users through a partner portal. The affiliate programme tracks referrals through a custom attribution layer.

The Sidekick Programme — Sharewear's community initiative for organisations working with individuals with special needs — has its own onboarding flow: organisations apply, receive a wholesale allocation, and manage their members' profiles through a simplified version of the owner portal designed for coordinators rather than individual users.

Sharewear is live with its full product range — kid bracelets, shoelace tags, and watch band slides — and the profile platform in production at sharewearprofile.com.

The scan-to-profile flow works as designed: NFC tap or QR scan on any Sharewear product resolves to a readable profile page in under two seconds, with no app or account required from the scanner. Profile owners update their information through the web portal; changes are live immediately.

The platform supports the full range of Sharewear's commercial channels — direct consumer orders, volume discount buyers, wholesale accounts, and Sidekick Programme organisations — all managed through a single backend.

For the client: Sharewear has a product that works in the exact moment it's needed most — when someone's child is lost or a loved one needs help and a stranger is the only one there. The platform doesn't get in the way of that.

For us: Sharewear is the project we point to when someone needs a consumer-facing platform that has to be absolutely frictionless at the point of use, while still handling complex account management, B2B workflows, and e-commerce integration behind the scenes.
